Iraklio or Heraklion or Heraclion, (Greek: Ηράκλειο, Irákleio, pronounced [iˈraklio]) is the largest city of the island of Crete, Greece. It has many beautiful beaches and places to swim. It also has many anchorages. Chersonisos and Malia are two of the most crowded villages and touristic areas with many hotels and homes to rent. It is one of the largest cities in Greece. Heraklion is the capital of Heraklion regional unit. The ruins of Knossos, which were excavated are located within close proximity of Heraklion
