Arenal d`en Castell

Spain, Islas Baleares, Baleares, Menorca, Arenal d`en Castell

Description

S’Arenal des/d`en Castell is a semi urban beach and it is considered to be one of the most beautiful places of the northern coast of Menorca, very near the village with the same name, some of the buildings reach the coastline, located between Raconada des Forats and ses Llautanies. This coastal corner is situated at nine kilometres from es Mercadal and at 13 kilometres from Alaior. This sea inlet is semicircular, it has a huge size and the beach is sandy, with rare vegetation in the surroundings, a natural rocky and narrow entrance, the orientation is toward northeast, the swell is moderate, and it is surrounded by residential houses. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, it has a good size, there is enough depth and it has very sheltered anchorages (the most usual is located in the east). This beach belongs to a bigger bay, surrounded by Punta Codolada and Taronger. On the side defended by Punta Codolada there are some dangerous reefs (Escull Gros, Escull d`en Truyol and Escull de s`Ofegas) which the navigator has to avoid when approaching s`Arenal d`en Castell. If you pass the natural breakwater of Punta Taronger you will find a small l-shaped sea inlet, which is sheltered from all winds, except from the northern air currents, and it is an alternative anchorage. These characteristics explain that the beach is very crowded by local visitors and tourists. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. This beach has received the 14001 environmental certification.
