Description

The township of Blanes, is located in the southernmost end of the province of Girona, by the mouth of the Tordera river. Along its 4 km. long coastline, cliffs alternate with quiet coves. In the town we must point out the remains of the castle of Sant Joan, commissioned by Grau de Cabrera in the middle of the 13th century, although the tower is from the times of Charles I; and a monumental site with Gothic buildings from the 14th and 15th century. Other interesting monuments include the Gothic fountain, commissioned by the daughter of the Count of Prades, Violante de Cabrera, towards the end of the 14th century; the church of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza; the sanctuary of Sagrada Imagen del Vilar, located four kilometres away from Blanes; and the chapel of Santa Bárbara. In Blanes we can also visit two botanical gardens: Mar i Murtra and Pinya Rosa. We can also enjoy the beaches of Treumal, Santa Francesc, Santa Ana, Blanes and S’Abanell.
