Description
Alicante, a city and port in Spain, located in the middle of the Costa Blanca, is the capital of the province of Alicante and of the comarca of Alacantí, in the south of the Valencian Community. The area around Alicante has been inhabited for over 7000 years. It is also a historic Mediterranean port and one of the most important tourist destinations in the Spanish east coast. The many golf courses, along with the tranquil waters of the Mediterranean Sea, make this beautiful harbour city extremely appealing. Amongst the most remarkable features of Alicante is the Castle of Santa Bárbara, which sits high above the city, on Mount Benacantil. The tower at the top, is the oldest part of the castle, while part of the lowest zone and the walls were constructed later in the 18th century. Alicante is also a land of deeply-rooted traditions, such as the Moors and Christians festivities and the Night of San Juan.
