Heybeliada

Description

Heybeliada, is the second largest island based on population and the top ranked green island in Prince Islands. Historically, the last Byzantium church before Ottomans` conquerer, Kamariotissa located in the island. This is the only architectual church with the shape of clover beside Ayios Maria in Fener. Also Ayios Yeorgios monastery and Tarik-i Dünya Monastery located along the same coast. Another arkeological ruin is the tombstone of the Elisabet I. Queen of Great Britain. All mentioned arkeological sites are located in military zones and needs a permission to visit. Within the island, Great Greek Church Ayios Nikolaos based in the center of the island. There are several picnic places located in the island with the nice picturesque view of windmill relics. The area named as "Degirmen Burnu" In one of the hils Trias Monastery and Greek Orhadox Theological School is located which used to be the main education center (The world education center was located in Fener) of Greek population right after the conquerer of Istanbul. School is not operational right now. Public transportation by ferries is available.
