Spain, Balearic Islands, Menorca

Description

Menorca or Minorca is one of the Balearic Islands found in the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to Spain. Its name comes from its size, in contrast to nearby Majorca. The island is known for its collection of megalithic stone monuments: navetes, taules and talaiots, which reveal a very early prehistoric human activity. The location of Minorca in the middle of the western Mediterranean was a staging point for the different cultures ever since prehistoric times. Menorca has a mix of colonial and local architecture. Especially well known for its traditional summer fiestas, the island is very appealing to numerous and fanatic visitors every year. In 1993 Unesco declared Menorca a Biosphere Reserve, so as to preserve environmental areas.
