Ribes Roges Beach

Spain, Cataluña, Barcelona, Ribes Roges Beach

Description

The Ribes Roges beach, one of the most popular in Vilanova i la Geltrú, is the busiest during the summer season. It is almost one kilometre long and limits on one of its sides with the marina. It has showers, access ramps for the disabled, lifeguard, beach bars which are open until late night, a beach volley court and a beach football pitch, and places where to rent pedalos, jet skis and kayaks. As it is an urban beach, it is very easy to access, both by public transport and with one´s own vehicle, which can be parked on the promenade or in the surrounding streets. This beach´s main icon, which has become a point of reference for Vilanova i la Geltrú, is the sculpture dedicated to Pasiphae, the Greek goddess mother of the Minotaur. It is the work of the sculptor Òscar Estruga, it is made with more than three tons of bronze and can be seen on a platform located at the end of a narrow strip of sand, nearly in the water. Facing inland, but without leaving this beach, we find the Ribes Roges park, a green area with many trees and gardens that may beacome a good option if the young ones wish to take a break from playing in the water. There is a miniature train circuit in the park that operates during the weekends and allows both young and old to travel on it. In this park we will also find the centre of the Estació Nàutica Vilanova i la Geltrú, where we can request information about the nautical sports that can be practiced in the city, among other tourist options. It is possible to park along the promenade in large paying areas.
