Alcossebre

Spain, Comunidad Valenciana, Castellón, Alcossebre

Description

This village in Castellón is characterised by its mountains, which all but reach the sea. This village falls within the municipal limits of Alcala de Xivert. Alcalá de Xivert-Alcossebre is located between the Costa del Azahar coast and the inland Maestrat region. Here the sea and the mountains come together to form contrasting landscapes. Along its ten kilometres of coastline there are five high quality beaches, along with various unspoilt coves. These Mediterranean waters are ideal for water sports such as sailing, fishing and scuba diving, amongst others. Alcossebre is also a good base from which to explore the Columbretes Islands Nature Reserve. Many different routes and footpaths run through the Sierra de Irta Mountains, Alcossebre`s great nature area. Other interesting places are the L’Estany wetlands and the dunes to be found between El Carregador and La Romana beaches. Local gastronomy is also highly varied, with fish and rice dishes being some of its most outstanding.
