Description
Platja El Marjal: The Marjal beach is located near the region where some time ago there was a large area of cane plantations on salt ponds and small lagoons. Today it is one of the most representative beaches in the area, among other reasons being the fact that it is the gateway to the well known fisherman district Les Cases d´Alcanar. Formed mainly by sand and pebbles, the water is calm and there are no steep slopes. It can be reached easily, either on foot or by car. It is also one of the first beaches in the area to offer visitors a beach library facility. The waters are also suitable for the practice of sport fishing. The physical and human landscape that surrounds this beach is full of attractions: on the northern side you can barely see the small hills mark the end of the Montsià mountain region. On the mainland one must visit the fishermen’s quarter of Les Cases d´Alcanar. For those who like hiking it is also possible to follow the route with the same name, which allows one to discover, in three sections, the landscape of this area that marks the boundary between the coast and the estuary of the river Sénia. It has a length of 3000 m. and an average width of 35 m. It has a low rate of popularity.
