Sant Gervasi Beach

Spain, Cataluña, Barcelona, Sant Gervasi Beach

Description

Sant Gervasi, which is also named the Capellans or the Xiringuito beach, is a calm and pleasant beach, both for its location and for its atmosphere. It is sheltered by stone piers in the form of breakwaters and, due to this, its waters are usually calm. The slope of entry into the sea is gentle, it is rather shallow and its sand is very fine. Right next to the beach there is a very popular restaurant specialised in seafood cuisine and paellas. One can park along the Ribes Roges promenade, in large paying areas, from which one can access the beach via broad stairs. The beach is located near two of the most emblematic constructions in Vilanova: el chalet del Nin y la ermita de Sant Gervasi. They are both in a walled compound. The chalet or house takes the place of an old defense tower and a fort. The hermitage, built in 1566m is very near and was dedicated to the saints Gervasio and Protasio, who according to the tradition, were the defenders of the entire region against the black plague.
